Planning your Hike in Maine:
In Maine if you ask a native driving directions on how to get from point A to point B you might get a response "You can't get there from here". That is especially true for hiking trails. Most trails do not start and finish in the same spot. Most hiking trips involve planning and logistics just to get your car from point A to point B. More popular trailheads will have parking lots available. Be sure not to block in other cars that might be in the lot especially if you are going to be on an extended hiking trip. If you are using a trail that is on private woodland especially in the North Maine Woods or Bowater woodland be sure to park well off the road. It is best to ask the people at one of their checkpoints where the best place to park is. These are private roads you are on so remember that the logging trucks have the right of way and it is important not to block a road in case the Maine Forest Service has to get to a forest fire.
